Risk Management Planning and Grain Marketing Strategies for 2016

Farm Credit East, Crop Growers, LLP and DCIS Webinar

The development of a farm risk management strategy is of the utmost importance in 2016. To help producers plan, Farm Credit East, Crop Growers, LLP and Diversified Crop Insurance Services (DCIS) held a webinar on Thursday, December 17. This webinar provided farmers with current information on grain markets and offered suggestions to protect farm profitability.

“Grain producers will see tighter margins in the coming year,” said Jeremy Forrett, Crop Growers vice president. “Your Crop Growers agent can help you develop a risk management strategy to help your farm business weather the volatility.”

During this webinar, Rich Morrison, senior risk analyst for the Diversified Services Marketing Group, discussed up to the moment corn, soybean and wheat market fundamentals, along with 2016 grain marketing strategies. Following, Doug Emery, DCIS regional marketing manager, discussed the potential consequences, hopefully profitable consequences, of various 2016 crop year farm management decisions. Using DCIS’s “Profit Matrix,” he analyzed different variations of input costs, yield variability, price ranges, crop insurance decisions and grain marketing strategies.
